The Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA), as the UK Market Surveillance Authority for marine equipment, is aware of the withdrawal of Marine Equipment Directive (MED) approval certification for certain Tecnicomar sewage treatment plant products from February 2019.
The MCA wishes to inform UK ship operators that, as long as the MARPOL sewage certification is in place, for equipment already installed on board before February 2019, the MED Certificate withdrawal will not impact on the statutory certification compliance of UK vessels – this position should be the same elsewhere.
