Registration

UK Ship Registration Service

With the UK Ship register online service you can apply to register your vessel, manage your vessel registration and stay up to date with your applications progress.

If you are applying to the UK Ship Register for the first time, either to reserve a vessel name or for a new or provisional registration you will need to sign up to use the service. This also applies if you are registering a new build vessel.

If your vessel is already registered with the UK Ship Register, you will first need to claim your vessel to allow you to manage your vessel registration online, you will need proof of identity, your Certificate of Registry, and either the the Bill of Sale or a Declaration of ownership.

If you have bought a vessel that has an existing registration you will also need to claim your vessel. You may be required to provide additional information in order to complete the registration.

Each owner will need to sign up to use the service, provide their personal details, complete declarations of eligibility and agree to our terms of service as detailed in our privacy notice.

Applying on behalf of a ship owner

Process and documents needed for Part 1 and Part 4 (Bareboat) Registration

How to get started when applying on behalf of the ship owner

Your first step will be to complete a ship registration pro forma (MSF 5547), which provides us with the necessary information to check if the ship and the owner are eligible for UK registration.

Following a successful check, you will then be assigned a Key Account Manager (KAM), and will guide you through the transfer of the ship on to the Register; and will be your dedicated point of contact for administration and general policy matters, both during the ‘flag-in’ process and for the period that the vessel remains with the UK Ship Register.

You will also be assigned a Customer Service Manager (CSM) who will deal with the technical issues regarding the survey
and inspection of the ship during the ‘flag-in’ process and for the period that the vessel remains with the UK Ship Register.
