Transfer In from a UK dependent territory to the UKSR

Overview

UK dependent territory is made up from the United Kingdom, the Crown Dependencies (Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey) and the UK Overseas Territories (Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, St Helena and the Turks & Caicos Islands) which operate shipping registers from their jurisdiction.

By Transferring In you will have access to customer support as well as benefiting from many of the advantages  that the UK Flag offers.

If you are intending to transfer in from a UK dependent territory to the UK Ship Register, depending on the type of vessel (Merchant, Large Yacht or Pleasure), the registration process can vary.

A vessel must transfer in like for like e.g. a commercial vessel must transfer over to the UK as a commercial vessel. Only Part 1 vessels can be transferred.

A vessels official number will remain the same on registries that are part of the Red Ensign Group.

Mechant Vessels (Part 1)

With the UK Ship register online service you can apply to transfer your vessel in from a dependent territory to the UK Ship Register.

Please be aware that in order to do a straight transfer in, a vessel transfer in must be like for like e.g. a commercial vessel must transfer over to the UK as a commercial vessel.

The online registration service will request various documents in order to complete the transfer in, as well as completing a declaration of eligibility and an application to change name and port.

A vessel official number will remain the same on registries that are part of the Red Ensign Group.

Large Yacht (Part 1)

If you are intending to transfer in from a dependent territory to the UK Ship Register, follow these steps.

A vessel must transfer in like for like e.g. a commercial vessel must transfer over to the UK as a commercial vessel.

The following will be required to be sent to our office from the registry which is transferring to the UK Ship Register: 

  • Transcript of registry - the UK will use the official number from the transferring flag
  • Certificate of survey
  • ITC 69 (if applicable)
  • Request to Transfer form

The following will need to be submitted:

Declaration of eligibility 

Application to change name and port 

Copy of the valid coding certificate issued by a class/certifying authority 

A coding certificate is required for all commercial vessels under 24m. A large commercial yacht over 24m will require a large yacht certificate issued by Ensign.

A vessel official number will remain the same on registries that are part of the Red Ensign Group.

Pleasure Vessels (Part 1)

If you are intending to transfer in from a dependent territory to the UK Ship Register, follow these steps.

A vessel must transfer in like for like e.g. a pleasure vessel must transfer over to the UK as a commercial vessel.

We will require the following from the registry which is transferring to the UK Ship Register:

  • Transcript of registry - the UK will use the official number from the transferring flag
  • Certificate of survey
  • ITC 69 (if applicable)
  • Request to Transfer form 

The following will need to be submitted by the owner:

Application to change name and port 

A vessel official number will remain the same on registries that are part of the Red Ensign Group.
