There are a number of questions that we are asked. Below are the most common that we receive:
How much does a survey cost?
LYS offer fee packages for all survey work including plan approval, periodical survey visits and consultancy work. Travel expenses are charged at cost. More information is on our fees page or contact us.
Which surveys can Large Yacht Services carry out?
LYS carry out annual and renewal surveys of UK commercially registered yachts over 24 metres.
LYS undertake flag-in surveys of any commercially registered yacht over 24 metres.
LYS undertake code compliance surveys for any large yacht, regardless of flag state, and issue a letter of compliance on completion.
LYS oversee newbuild projects regardless of flag state.
Do you undertake newbuild work?
Yes. LYS oversee newbuild projects whether the yacht is to be flagged to the UK or to any other flag state. A lead Surveyor is assigned to oversee the project from start to finish.
Do you delegate work to class?
Yes. LYS delegate certain elements to Class as shown in the Division of Responsibilities form.
LYS do not delegate stability work and have an in-house stability approval team.
I am changing from commercial to private registration, what happens to my Large Yacht Certificate?
A pleasure registered yacht does not have to hold or maintain a Large Yacht Certificate or undertake annual or renewal surveys. However, there are many benefits of continued compliance such as possible increased re-sale value, high standards of safety and possible reduction of insurance premiums.
Continuing with voluntary compliance also makes it easier to change back to commercial registration at a later date.
