UK Ship Register retains US QUALSHIP 21 status

The UK Ship Register has retained its US QUALSHIP 21 (Quality Shipping for the 21st Century) status, one of the world’s top standards, with fewer than one per cent of its flagged ships being detained in United States of America ports.

Director of Maritime Safety and Standards Katy Ware said ‘We are proud be recognised by the US Qualship 21 program as a consistently top performing Flag. It’s an endorsement of the high levels of quality and safety ships on the UK flag operate under.

UK-flagged vessels have had an excellent record under Port State Control and the Flag is consistently awarded the status by US Coast Guard.

For UK Ship Register customers this is a big achievement and represents the value that having a 24/7 team of customer support and technical experts on hand brings. The UK Ship Register team is available 365 days a year, ready to respond to the challenges operators and owners face when running a global shipping service and help them meet the requirements for Qualship21 status.

UK Flagged ships with the status gain significant competitive advantage when trading with the US, being subject to much fewer port state control inspections when in US waters, lowering the likelihood of delays.
