Graham Candy, Head of Commercial Management Unit for the UK Ship Register attended the 5th Greek- British Shipping forum today (26 June). Taking place in Athens, Greece, the event brings together the Anglo – Greek shipping community to debate the latest financial innovation and opportunities.

Speaking at the forum this morning Graham touched upon the UK’s Maritime 2050 strategy, launched earlier this year, saying “[the strategy] sets a clear and ambitious vision for the industry.

“It defines our values… and also identifies opportunities for the UK Maritime sector to grow, exploring answers to the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

Moving onto the UK Flag, there have already been a number of announcements this year, including eligibility expansion to all countries of the Commonwealth and some additional countries which brings the UK flag into line with its Red Ensign Group partners. In addition, changes to Bareboat services further aligns the UK flag with industry needs.

On the recent news that Katy Ware is taking on the leadership role for the UK Ship Register he said “as we align all our flag and port state services under one team we have already started reaching out to existing and future customers gathering industry insight into how we can keep improving the UK Flag offering. Katy will look forward to sharing some of those insights and how they will inform our future plans at the London International Shipping Week”

The UK Ship Register is a platinum sponsor of London International Shipping Week which takes place from 9th- 13th September.
