The team at the UK Ship register were delighted to present the innovation award to Shakespeare Marine at the Maritime UK Awards in Southampton on September 19.

The Maritime UK Awards are a brand-new set of awards which, unlike many before them, aim to celebrate businesses and organisations from the entire spectrum of the industry – from leisure to shipping, professional services to ports and engineering to advanced manufacturing.

A highly respected industry panel performed the judging over the summer and, after making the shortlist, Shakespeare Marine was one of 12 winners at the awards ceremony in Southampton.

Graham Candy, head of the commercial management unit at the UK Ship Register presented the award to the winners on the night.

Harry Theochari, Chair of Maritime UK, said: “Our judges were bowled over by the standard of entries and a huge congratulations goes to each and every winner. The UK’s maritime sector adds an impressive £46.1bn to the UK economy and supports over one million jobs so events like this are vital in showcasing success and sharing best practice.”

Kevin George from Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), which hosted this year’s awards and was instrumental in bringing the first event to the Solent, added: “The winners in this year’s awards are great examples of the energy and innovation we’re seeing within the industry. The maritime sector is driving forward both the Solent and the UK’s economy and that’s been evident through the success stories we’ve heard at this year’s awards.”
