These courses outlined below are for Fire Rescue Services (FRS) personnel. For them to be part of a MIRG team they need to be competent in these courses

MIRG 1 Provided by Maritime Training Centres (Warsash, HOTA, PETANS, Fleetwood, Falck NUTEC and South Tyneside) |
This sea survival course is designed to provide local authority fire and rescue services (FRS's) operational personnel with the sound knowledge, understanding and skill levels of sea safety and survival training when being transported on or over the sea. This will include helicopter underwater escape training (HUET) and use of emergency breathing systems. The training delivery must conform to the agreed safe systems of work/ standard operational procedures (SOP's) and must be nationally uniform throughout the UK Maritime Incident Response Group (MIRG). |
| MIRG 2 | This course is designed to provide local authority fire and rescue service (FRS) operational personnel with the sound knowledge, understanding and skill levels of helicopter operations in relation to firefighting and rescue at sea. The training delivery must comform to the agreed safe systems of work/ standard operational procedures (SOP's) and must be nationally uniform throughout the UK maritime incident Response Group (mirg) . |
| MIRG 3 | This course is designed to maintain local authority fire and rescue service (FRS) operational personnel with the sound knowledge, understanding and skill level of helicopter operations in relation to firefighting and rescue at sea. The training delivery must comform to the agreed safe systems of work/ standard operational procedures (SOP's) and must be nationally uniform throughout the UK Maritime Incident Response Group (MIRG) . |
| MIRG 4 |
This training is designed to provide all coastal local authority Fire and rescue services' operational personnel with the sound knowledge, understanding and demonstrate, where applicable, basic ship stability. These skills will include the ability to carry out the roles of FRS stability officer (Functional role) and stability crew (Firefighter, crew and watch managers). The training laid out in this part of the prospectus will be delivered in four elements which are currently available in a power point format on CD ROM :

| MIRG 5 | This course is designed to provide local authority fire and rescue services' operational personnel with the sund knowledge,understanding and demonstrate as necessary skills require to travel by support vessel and to carry out and associate support functions. The training laid out in the prospectus focuses primarily on the practcal port and harbour training required to enable the MIRG team member to demonstrate as necessary skills required to travel by support vessel and to carry out and associated support functions |
| MIRG 6 |
This element is designed to provide local authority fire and rescue services operational personnel with the sound knowledge and understanding of safety during helicopter transportation. This module is available on an interactive CD ROM : the module consists of five elements:

| MIRG 7 | This element is designed to provide local authority fire and rescue services' operational personnel with the sound knowledge, understanding and the ability to demonstrate , as necessary, the skills required to use the transportation personal protective equipment issued to all MIRG teams which are required on vessels at an incident at sea. |
| MIRG 8 |
This element is designed to provide local authority fire and rescue services' operational personnel with the sound knowledge , understanding and demonstrate as necessary skills require to carry out the nominal roll procedures required when proceeding to and working on a vessel at sea. The training laid out in this part of the prospedctus consists of two sub-elements:

This course is designed to provide local authority fire and rescue service operarional personnel with the sound knowledge and understanding of ship construction .The knowledge gained will assist MIRG teams and fire and rescue service personnel to understand ship terminology, generic fire protection systems and have an appreciationof different types of vessels to enable them to be better prepared for dealing with incidents at sea. The training laid out in this prospectus will be delivered in four elements:

This course is designed to provide local authority fire and rescue service operational personnel with the sound knowledge and understanding of the procedures to be adopted when responding to hazardous materials ("Hazmat")incident at sea. The knowledge gained will assist MIRG team members and fire and rescue personnel to understand the assessment process prior to attending an incident at sea involving hazardous materials, the FRS categorisation of maritime hazmat incidents and the tasking procedures to be followed. This will enable them to be better prepared for dealing with these types of incidents at sea. The training is not designed to replace other formal Hazmat/CBRN training, but the procedures gained from that training should be transferable. The training laid out in the prospectus will be delivered in three stages :
